Belgrade sex offender gets lifetime prison sentence

A Belgrade man convicted of being a repeat sex offender was the first person in the state sentenced to life in prison under the federal “two strikes and you're out” law.
William James Gallenardo, 46, was handed a lifetime sentence Wednesday during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Missoula. He was sentenced for the crimes of sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography.According to court records, Gallenardo had been convicted of sexual-abuse charges stemming from a case in 1987 and spent time in the Montana State Prison for those convictions.Then, in 2005, a woman found four camera memory cards and a videotape that contained nude images of a juvenile male, court records stated. The woman also found images of two other males.Eventually, the woman gave the memory cards with nude images of the boy to law-enforcement officers, according to court records. The boy then told investigators that Gallenardo had taken the pictures.
Gallenardo was convicted of the sexual exploitation and child porn charges following a two-day trial.

1829Loeb Strauss is born in Buttenheim, Bavaria. 1847Leob Strauss, his two sisters and mother sail for America, where they join half-brothers Jonas and Louis in New York. Levi joins their dry goods business (selling bolts of cloth, linens, clothing, etc.). For a few years, young Loeb worked for his brothers, and by 1850 had changed his name to Levi.

1853Levi becomes an American citizen and sails to San Francisco to set up a small dry-goods house, which grows into a prosperous business over the next twenty years.Levi Strauss opens his wholesale dry-goods business on California Street near the San Francisco waterfront. It moves to a number of locations over the next 15 years.


1866LS&CO. headquarters are at 14-16 Battery Street, where they remain for 40 years.
1872Jacob Davis, a Reno Nevada tailor and one of Levi's wholesale customers, writes to Levi Strauss, telling him of the process he invented to rivet the pocket corners on men's pants.
Among Jacob's customers was a difficult man who kept ripping the pockets of the pants that Jacob made for him. Jacob tried to think of a way to strengthen the man's trousers, and one day hit upon the idea of putting metal rivets at the points of strain, such as on the pocket corners and at the base of the button fly.
These riveted pants were an instant hit with Jacob's customers and he worried that someone might steal this great idea. He decided he should apply for a patent on the process, but didn't have the $68 that was required to file the papers. He needed a business partner and he immediately thought of Levi Strauss.
He suggests the two men take out a patent on the process together.








1873Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis receive the patent for rivets on men's pants. The patent (# 139,121) is under the name of "Improvement in fastening Pocket Openings". That day is considered the official birthday of blue jeans.
They begin making copper riveted "waist overalls" (the old name for jeans) in San Francisco. The denim comes from the Amoskeag Mill in New Hampshire.


1902Levi Strauss dies at the age of 73. His nephews inherit the business.

1920sBy the 1920s, Levi's® waist overalls were the leading product in men's work pants in the Western states.
1928 LS&CO registers the word Levi's® as a trademark.

In later seasons Lucy and Ricky had a son, Little Ricky.
Lucy is somewhat naïve and ambitious, with an overactive imagination and a knack for getting herself into trouble. Primarily she is obsessed with joining her husband in show business. Fred and Ethel are former vaudevillians and this only strengthens her resolve to prove herself as a performer. Unfortunately, she cannot carry a tune or play anything other than an off-key rendition of "Glow Worm" (or "Sweet Sue") on the saxophone and has little other discernible ability. The show provided Ball ample opportunity to display her considerable skill at clowning and physical comedy, with Lucy's determination to get into the act in any way possible, resulting in numerous wacky situations. Character development was not a major focus of early sitcoms, so not much was ever learned about her life prior to the show. A few episodes mentioned that she was born in Jamestown, New York, (later corrected to West Jamestown), and that she met Ricky on a blind date. Lucy's husband, Ricky Ricardo, is an up-and-coming Cuban American singer and bandleader with an excitable personality. As with Lucy, not much was ever learned about his past or family. His mother appeared in two episodes and in another Lucy mentioned that he had five brothers. He mentioned that he'd been "practically raised" by his uncle Alberto (who was seen during a family visit to Cuba) and that he'd attended Havana University.
Lucy's best friend, confidant and accomplice in her crazy schemes is Ethel Mertz. A former model from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ethel tries to relive her glory days in vaudeville. She usually gets more chances to perform at Ricky's nightclub, because, unlike Lucy, she can actually sing and dance. Ethel, although she is Lucy's ally, often tries to reason with her, providing common sense advice.
Ethel's husband Fred served in World War I and lived through the Great Depression. He is very stingy with money and a very no-nonsense type of guy. However, he also shows that he can be a soft touch, especially when it comes to Little Ricky, the Ricardos' son. Fred performed in vaudeville, so like his wife Ethel, he can also sing and dance. Fred's close friendship with Ricky allows for the opportunity for Battle of the sexes episodes. Although they may disagree at times, and despite their age differences, the four main characters are very close and loving.
The building they all lived in before their move to Connecticut was addressed at 623 E. 68th St. (An address which if it actually existed, would put them in the middle of the East River.)
